Metanoia
My bible reading lately focused on Matthew’s gospel. John the Baptist’s first word is,“Repent!” Diving into online sources shows the Greek word to be “Metenoia”. English doesn’t have a single word that gives all the nuances of this word. Metenoia means something closer to change your mind or purpose. I’ve seen it explained as “to change one’s thought processes to go beyond the mind’s present limitations.” So I have been chewing on that and pondering what my limitations are. What thought processes was John referring to when he spoke to the Jews? How should I think differently about the world? How does Christ call me to change my thinking? How am I being called to change how I interact with the world?
